honestly, is this month over yet?

i’m just about sick of february, so as some sort of therapy for myself i’m going to list some things that brought me joy this month (despite all this f’n snow, and ANOTHER storm on the way).

so here are 5 things that brought me joy, despite all the times i had to winter boots. boo-urns.

1. l-emma-no-p — i love my emma visits. she is the funnest baby ever. true story. i’ve spent little time with babes in my day… no matter. this kid is the shit. i’ve taken to calling her ‘little monkey.’ it’s a family thing. i think my aunt kathie called every kid monkey; i even call my cat monkey. it’s just so tender. love you, monkey! but i’ve also branded her with a new nickname: l-emma-no-p — say it like your singing the alphabet. heh!

2. grind me — hooman and i are sooo not gifters; we opt instead to go out for a nice dinner and make an extra special evening. besides, gift giving in general gives me a lot of anxiety; i really feel the need to get something good and i put a lot of thought into (most) gifts i give. some times i don’t, of course, and then that bothers me. so early in our relationship, we went no-gift. but this v-day (well, on february 13th), he sprung a surprise on me. we were eating supper and after supper he said, “do you want your valentine’s day gift today or tomorrow?” and i said, “TODAY!” he’d hidden this mortar and pestle in the entertainment centre. i noticed it right away because i’d be eying it for a while. you see, that’s the thing about unexpected gifts; they’re so much better and so much more of a gesture. i almost cried. in fact, i might have, if i would have let myself. sweet stuff, i tell ya.

3. munch-tacular — mr. munchy is the chocolate rabbit i worship. it is the only reason i look forward to easter and yesterday at no frills it was there in his munchy glory. i ate a lot of it last night and shared the rest with hooman tonight after supper. i wish i had another one. no worries, easter is a month away! yay!

4. total lunar eclipse of my heart — since moving to our new place i get really excited about anything that gives me an excuse to go outside on the balcony. and despite being terribly sick, i bundled up and went outside to watch the lunar eclipse. i love that kind of stuff. it was lovely, don’t ya think?

5. slumber sluts — who said you had your last sleepover in your teens? woo. enjoyed a nice overnighter with a bunch of my friends. hilarious times and trivia games, but unfortunately, no collages. next time… next time.

all right, february —– GO TO HELL. i want spring. i want patio furniture and bike rides on the lakeshore and not wearing boots and burning my winter coat and picnics! PICNICS!

hot tea from the taco stand

i came home tonight after the gym to hooman, on the couch, playing some kill-’em-all/shoot-’em-up game on the living room pc, so i knew i wasn’t going to get any tv time in.

i’ve been meaning to make MORE carrot muffins (yes, more), after last week’s disastrous chocolate cupcakes (which hooman didn’t like, but still managed to eat most of… i like them). so i did… i make more freakin’ carrot cupcakes, did the dishes, made a cup of tea (in this funny-but-inappropriate mug i got in vegas) and then decided to sit here and write something.

then *poof* — hooman emerges from his video game trance, strolls into the kitchen, and here’s our exchange:

i’ve got tomorrow off and i intend on doing a whole lot of nothing, short of the one planned thing hooman and i are doing. it’s winterlicious time, so i managed to get a lunch reservations at canoe, and since hooman already had the day off, why not take a tuesday off?
